I strongly support positive action to counter global climate change, aka global climate disruption. Renewably produced electricity of passenger and freight trains and other tracked transportation should play an integral and valuable contribution to reducing our national, and international, carbon footprint. I live in Costa Rica, and am a naturalized Costa Rican citizen. Costa Rican passenger vehicle and freight transportation is 100% fossil fuel-based. Electrification of the primitive rail system, which was established in the 19th Century to connect the capital San Jose and other Central Valley cities with both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts was abolished in 1996 by then-president José María Figueres, offers a potential to tap the 90%+ of national electricity that's renewably produced, and could provide an important component of a renewed commuter and freight train system.
