The pending BNSF agreement to eliminate conductors on trains is causing problems everywhere.\n \nWe are weighing our options on this.\n \nJohn Risch\nAlternate National Legislative Director\nSMART Transportation Division (formerly UTU)\n304 Pennsylvania Ave. SE\nWashington, D.C. 20003-1147\n \n202-543-7714 Office \n202-544-3024 Fax\n \

The MAIN reason I have become the public face of coal, oil and gas in the PNW region, and the villain to the environmentalists is because of the enormous number of rail jobs this would create for our members across the entire northwestern US. \n \nNow that the BNSF CLEARLY INTENDS TO ELIMINATE OUR JOBS AS TRAINMEN, I don’t see much benefit for our members in expending time and energy to assist or suport the carrier on these issues! \n \nThis is very disconcerting – because all of the work we’ve done on their behalf to get them more business and this is their payback to us?\nIt seems like a real F***You on their part? It actually makes me want to jump to the other side and help the opposition to fossil fuels just for spite!\n \nHow can I justify this work to our members in light of the current 1 person crew proposal – especially on coal – which won’t be covered under the DOT regulations since coal is NOT a hazardous material? How can I conceivably continue to advocate the carriers position to their financial benefit when they have now made it absolutely clear their intent is to cut our union members throats and make higher profits on the back of our efforts to get them more business?\n \nYour thoughts would be appreciated?\n \nHerb", "icon"=>nil, "type"=>"link"}}
