The Lac-Megantic Rail Disaster: Public Betrayal, Justice Denied by Canadian author Bruce Campbell, investigates the explosion of an oil train in a small town in eastern Quebec province, Canada, on July 6, 2013 -- and the investigation that followed. Forty-seven people died, almost the entire small town's downtown was destroyed, there was pervasive contamination of land, buildings, and water, and questions of accountability are ongoing.

This tragedy and its aftermath brings us to the intersection of the railway industry, the fossil fuel industry, government regulation, safety of workers, and safety of communities. How can the vast railway infrastructure be part of a just transition into a livable, thriving future for all?

Come hear about Lac-Megantic and a vision for the future of rail called Solutionary Rail, that is an ongoing project involving the railway industry, railway unions, farmers and ranchers, tribes, legislators, and environmentalists.

Audience-participants will have a chance to ask questions and make comments during a panel discussion period. Copies of both Campbell's book and Solutionary Rail will be available for sale before and during the event.
