By GEORGE PLAVEN East Oregonian | 0 comments Climate activists joined in solidarity with Umatilla tribal members and elders Monday night as the second of three controversial megaloadsrolls through Eastern Oregon to the oil sands region of Alberta, Canada. About 50 people gathered along Highway 395 near St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, where the convoy was parked after departing the Port of Umatilla late Sunday. Together, they held signs and sang songs of prayer while police kept watch over the demonstration.

A small, but great event by Spokane activists with a little backbone. I wonder where Ziggy got the idea to organize something like thi:. Great event today, (10-29-2013) organized by Ziggy, A handful of us met at the triangle across from the Spokane Club where WSU President Elson Floyd, and WSU Chancellor Lisa Brown were attending a meeting. We called them out to explain why WSU management was recieving a 4/% raise this year , while contracted workers have gone as long as 6 years without a raise. To his credit, President Floyd came out and talked to us. We were disappointed that that Chancellor Brown could not find time between her meetings to come out and speak with us

No Coal Trains! March & Rally Friday 8/31/12 5:00PM For over a year now, the 99% - The people of Puget Sound - from Whatcom County to King County have been fighting to prevent the Gateway Pacific Terminal from being built. http://gatewaypacificterminal.com/ The purpose of this terminal is to ship coal to China to be burned. This terminal would not handle any other marine traffic. With the promise of only a few temporary construction jobs and a few coal terminal jobs - SSA Marine - a company with a storied labor record - bank-rolled by one of the major players in the financial meltdown - Goldman Sachs - is now doing a full-court-press to push the coal trains and the coal terminal down our throats. Television ads are now running to put pressure on our politicians. Campaign contributions from SSA Marine and BNSF are already influencing our politicians. Misguided Unions are backing the coal train venture with the promise of jobs. We need good, union jobs which are founded on respect for the environment, the workers, and all the people who live here. We DO NOT need to pit Unions against the environment and our community over the prospect of a few temporary jobs. These large - out of town, corporate interests are trying to divide our community. The promise of 20 additional trains per day (to start) will impact our quality of life in favor of a handfull of jobs. This rally will convene at the Bellingham Federal Building - 104 W. Magnolia Street Bellingham, WA 98225 and will march on City hall.
