Freight Transport in the Public Interest: A Conversation with Steve Viscelli and Allies
At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Solutionary Rail held a Conversation on the Future of Trucking, with Dr. Steve Viscelli. Now we're following up on that Conversation with a Part II, focusing on Trucking and the Public Interest. Monday, June 22, 2020 Time: 12:30 PACIFIC/3:30 EASTERN Our Conversation with Dr. Viscelli in March helped us understand the vision that is being pushed by corporate interests in terms of freight movement. The advocates of that vision seem agnostic at best and at worst antagonistic to the public impact/good and progressive policy. There's far too little conversation about the public interests related to freight transport and the role of long haul trucking vs trains. As a movement of movements, we lack an adequate critique and alternate vision to formulate strategies and demands that address the threats or steer the public debate about the future of freight transportation. Now is the time to remedy this deficit and align our visions and demands. Please join us for this strategic conversation, so that we can continue learning together.Posted by Solutionary Rail on Monday, June 22, 2020
#Grounded: A Conversation with Winona LaDuke and Bill McKibben on Decarbonization, Localization & Just Transition
Localization of economies, democracy and resilience requires that we be/get "Grounded" - reconnected to place, planet and each other. In the old "normal" it was difficult to imagine stopping air travel. Today, it is much easier to imagine. The climate, planet and creatures need the new normal to look dramatically different from the old normal. NOW is our moment of opportunity.
The Backbone Campaign Team and allies held a 1 hour conversation with Winona LaDuke and Bill McKibben on this CoViD-19 moment and its relevance for decarbonization, localization, and system transformation. Check it out! Then take action to #ReMakeTheWorld and let's get #Grounded.Bio, links and additional information HERE
